About Senior Friends Network

Learn more about Senior Friends Network, our mission to combat senior loneliness in Oklahoma City, and the values that drive our work. We're dedicated to providing support, friendship, and love to seniors, while helping them preserve their precious memories.

Our story

Senior Friends Network began with a simple truth: too many seniors feel alone. After seeing how isolation affects older adults in Oklahoma City—emotionally, mentally, and physically— I realized something was missing: a consistent, heart-centered way to bring friendship back into their lives.

I believed every senior deserves someone who listens, someone who shows up, and someone who truly cares. So I created a way to connect volunteers with seniors who need companionship, comfort, and community.

What started as one person wanting to make sure no senior felt forgotten is now growing into a movement built on kindness, storytelling, and human connection.

Senior Friends Network was born from love, empathy, and the belief that friendship can change everything.

Our guiding principles

At Senior Friends Network, our work is guided by a set of core principles. These beliefs shape everything we do, from how we interact with seniors to the programs we create.

  1. Connection Comes First: Human connection is a basic need—not a luxury. We believe every senior deserves consistent companionship, warmth, and a sense of belonging.
  2. Every Story Matters: A lifetime of experiences should never fade into silence. We honor each senior’s history, wisdom, and story with care and respect.
  3. Friendship Is Healing: Companionship can lift spirits, extend quality of life, and restore hope. We show up not as workers, but as friends.
  4. Dignity at Every Age: Aging should never mean becoming invisible. We treat every senior with respect, autonomy, and compassion.
  5. Community Changes Lives: Positive change happens one relationship at a time. We bring people together to build stronger, kinder communities.
  6. Volunteers Are Family: We support, train, and celebrate our volunteers—because they are the heart of our mission.
  7. Listening Is a Gift: We listen with empathy, patience, and joy. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer is simply being present.
  8. Legacy Is Sacred: Preserving life stories is an act of love. We protect and celebrate the memories that shape families and future generations.
  9. Kindness Leads the Way: Every decision, every visit, every program is guided by kindness, integrity, and genuine care.
  10. No Senior Grows Old Alone: This is our promise, our purpose, and the heartbeat of everything we do.

Our impact in Oklahoma City

Senior Friends Network brings warmth, connection, and dignity into the lives of seniors across Oklahoma City—many of whom face isolation, limited mobility, or little day-to-day companionship. Our impact is real, personal, and deeply felt.

  • We reduce loneliness and isolation: We match seniors with caring volunteers who offer weekly visits, meaningful conversation, shared activities, and phone check-ins. This consistent friendship helps seniors feel seen, valued, and connected.
  • We preserve stories and memories: We help seniors record their life stories through audio and video interviews, written narratives, and memory preservation projects, giving them pride, purpose, and a chance to leave a legacy.
  • We give seniors something joyful to look forward to: Whether it's a coffee outing, a conversation on the porch, or a shared hobby, our seniors experience increased happiness, reduced anxiety, and a stronger sense of meaning.
  • We support mental and emotional well-being: Through companionship, we help reduce depression, improve cognitive engagement, stabilize mood, and strengthen resilience.
  • We create community: Senior Friends Network bridges the gap by building local volunteer-senior relationships, partnering with community centers, libraries, and churches, and fostering a sense of belonging.
  • We empower seniors to stay independent longer: Through companionship and small assistance, we help extend their ability to live safely at home with confidence.
  • We remind seniors that they matter: Above all, we restore dignity by showing up, listening, and caring. We let seniors know that they are not forgotten—and that their lives continue to hold meaning, value, and beauty.

"Senior Friends Network has been a lifeline for my mother. The companionship and support she receives have made a world of difference in her overall well-being. I am eternally grateful!"
